Incunabula, Hortus, Garden Of Health, 3 Woodcuts, Medicinal Plants, Strasbourg, C. 1497
Item History & Price
The literal meaning of the Latin word incunabulum is "infant’s cradle" and alludes to the fact that printing at that time was in its infancy. The fact that a book was printed before 1500 is significant in that its value is much greater than if it had been printed after 1501. Condition of the Leaf: As shown, in good condition. It is on hand-made paper. Some of the leaves have an indistinct watermark. There is evidence of ageing: light soiling, edge and margin flaws, worm holes, marginalia, etc. I will mention flaws that cannot be seen on the photographs. Size of the leaf: ca. 11.25"x 7.75"(290 mm x 195 mm).
