A sharp half plate tintype (4 1/4” x 5 1/2”) of a handsome bearded Yankee infantryman. He poses slightly reclined in the photographer’s chair, giving him a casual appearance. He wears an unbuttoned infantry frock coat with collar and cuff piping, as well as an exterior chest pocket holding a diary, Bible, or other small book. A watch fob is visible attached to a button hole in the vest. While his frock and vest are of the same dark blue cloth, he wears the lighter sky blue trouse...rs. The image is in excellent condition. Just the tiniest little bend in the plate at one corner, but it’s hidden under the mat. Else perfectly smooth. No crazing. There are a couple spots where there is some very minor discoloration. The image is housed in a full thermoplastic case (number 3-5 in Berg or 14 in Krainik). It is in excellent condition with very few flaws—just a couple very minor chigger bites in the edges. Corners are all intact and excellent. On the interior is a leather pillow in place of the typical felt. Please see my other items for more interesting and original Civil War pieces.
