DREAM DESTINATION FOR ALL BONANZA OWNERS, DUE TO IT’S SPEED, RUGGEDNESS, FINE HANDLING QUALITIES, AND RAMP PRESENCE!THE DOUBLE DOORS ON THE RIGHT SIDE OPEN THE REAR AREA WIDE, FOR EASY BAGGAGE LOADING, OR PEOPLE LOADING, OR BOTH!!ALL A36’S FROM 1970 AND UP ARE SIMILAR, BUT REFINEMENTS EVE...RY YEAR MAKE THE LATER 1970’S AIRPLANES BETTER THAN THEIR EARLIER VERSIONS.  FOR INSTANCE, IN 1979, THE WINGTIPS HAVE THE BIG CURVED GLASS PANELS IN THEM, A FEATURE KEPT ALL THE WAY TO THE PRESENT.AVIONICS ALSO IMPROVED, ESPECIALLY AUTOPILOTS, AND THIS AIRPLANE HAS ONE OF THE BEST SYSTEMS EVER BUILT, THE KING KFC-200!!FULLY FEATURED FOR ALTITUDE HOLD, ELECTRIC AND AUTO TRIM, GLIDESLOPE COUPLING, THE WORKS!FAR BETTER THAN THE CENTURY OR BENDIX SYSTEMS OFFERED DURING THIS SAME TIME PERIOD!!THE ORIGINAL IO-520 POWERPLANT PUT OUT 285 HORSEPOWER, GIVE OR TAKE.OF COURSE, THE IO-520 IS NO LONGER THE BIG DOG.CONTINENTAL’S IO-550 PUTS OUT 300 HORSEPOWER CONTINUOSLY, WITH NO VARIANCE BELOW 300 H.P., AND UP TO 10% VARIENCE ABOVE AT MANUFACTURE!!THIS 1979 A-36 HAS HAD THE IO-550B ENGINE UPGRADE ADDED !!MORE CRUISE SPEED AT A LITTLE MORE FUEL BURN, OR LESS FUEL BURN AT THE SAME CRUISE SPEED AS THE 520, WITH NOTICABLY BETTER CLIMB RATE AND SHORTER TAKEOFF ROLL, ESPECIALLY HIGH OR HOT!THE IO-550 MAKES THE A-36 THE BEST!!THE ENGINE IN THIS PLANE WAS A FRESH FACTORY ZERO TIME REMAN IN 2014, AND HAS ONLY 176 HOURS ELAPSED SINCE THEN!D’SHANON BAFFLING SYSTEM WITH COWL INSERTS ALSO INSTALLED, WHICH ELIMINATES COOLING ISSUES !!ALL THAT SPEED ISN’T VERY USEABLE UNLESS WHERE YOU ARE SITTING IS A NICE PLCE TO BE!!THE INTERIOR OF THIS A-36 IS AWESOME!!SOFT TAN LEATHER, WITH UPDATED, MODERN BOLSTERS, NOT JUST PLAIN FLAT SEATS!MATCHING SIDE PANELS, WITH COCOA BROWN ACCENTS AND BROWN CARPETING.TOTALLY FINISHED REAR AREA, SURROUNDED IN LEATHER.WINDOW FRAMES ARE SEWN LEATHERDOOR AND PILOT ARMRESTS ARE INSET AND HAND SEWN!ALL IN FANTASTIC SHAPE!THE LATE STYLE HEAVY RAMS HORN YOKE IS HAND STITCH IN COCOA LEATHER!BUT THIS IS NO LONGER A PERFECT A-36!THE PILOT, AN ELDERLY GENTLEMAN, WAS USING THE AIRPLANE LESS THAN 50 HOURS A YEAR SINCE THE UPGRADES, AND MUST HAVE LOST A LITTLE IN THE REFLEXES.AFTER LANDING AT THE RENO NEVADA AIRPORT, HE ALLOWED THE AIRPLANE TO WANDER OFF THE SIDE OF THE RUNWAY, WHERE IT IMPACTED A COUPLE OF RUNWAY/TAXIWAY SIGNS BEFORE STOPPING.THE LANDING GEAR DID NOT COLLAPSE, THE ENGINE DID NOT STOP IDLING, AND THE AIRPLANE COULD TAXI ON IT’S OWN, MOSTLY DUE TO THE FLAT DESERT TERRAIN ON THE AIRPORT, NO DITCHES OR BERMS OFF THE SIDE OF THE RUNWAY.BUT THE AIRPLANE HAS SUSTAINED DAMAGE!!THE LEFT WING LEADING EDGE FAR OUTBOARD HAS A SIMPLE DENT IN THE SKIN.  IT DOES NOT AFFECT RIBS, IS OUTBOARD OF THE FUEL BLADDER, AND AFFECTS ONLY A SMALL AREA ON THE TOP OF THE LEADING EDGE SKIN, NONE BELOW.THAT IS THE ONLY DAMAGE OF ANY KIND TH THE LEFT SIDE OF THE AIRPLANE, AT ALL!THE RIGHT SIDE SUFFERED SIGN IMPACT, BUT THE AIRPLANE DID NOT HIT ANY CONCRETE OR SOLID STRUCTURES.DAMAGE STARTS ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE NOSEBOWL, WHICH HAS A TEAR, BELOW AND OUTSIDE THE LED LANDING LIGHT.THE RIGHT SIDE LOWER COWL IS BOTH DENTED AND SCRAPED AND PUSH INWARD SLIGHTLY, BUT NOT ENOUGH TO DAMAGE THE MUFFLER OR EXHAUST MANIFOLD.THE RIGHT UPPER COWL IS SIMLARILY DENTED AND SCRAPED, BUT AS THE DAMAGE HAPPENED WHILE IT WAS CLOSED, THE LATCH STILL FUNCTIONS TO CLOSE THE COWL.THE DAMAGE IS TO THE RIGHT SIDE ONLY, THE CNTER RIB OF THE TOP COWL AND OF COURSE THE WHOLE LEFT SIDE IS GOOD!!THE MOST OBVIOUS DAMAGE IS TO THE LEADING EDGE OF THE RIGHT WING, WHERE THE INBOARD SKINS ARE PUSHED IN, BENT AND TORN.  THE FUEL BLADDER IS ALSO TORN HERE.LUCKILY, THE BONANZA WINGS, INCLUDING THE A-36, ARE BUILT WITH A REMOVEABLE LEADING EDGE!!  THE WHOLE LEADING EDGE, FORWARD OF THE UNDAMAGED SPAR CAN BE REMOVED AND REPAIRED OR REPLACED JUST BY PULLING THE PINS ON TWO LONG PIANO HINGES!!THERE IS NO DAMAGE FURTHER OUT ON THE WING, NOR TO THE SPARS OR OTHER SKINS!NO DAMAGE TO THE LATE STYLE TIP, OR FLAP OR AILERON.THE GEAR DOORS ARE NOT DENTED, BUT THERE IS A DENT TO A SMALL SKIN IN FRONT OF THE RIGHT INBOARD DOOR (SHOWN IN PHOTO).THERE IS NO DAMAGE AT ALL TO THE RIGHT GEAR LEG!THE RIGHT EXHAUST PIPE HAS A SMALL DENT AT THE TIP AND THERE IS LIGHT DAMAGE TO THE RIGHT COWL FLAP (AGAIN, NONE TO THE LEFT COWL OR EXHAUST).THERE ARE SEVERAL TEARS TO THE BELLY SKIN UNDER THE CABIN, BUT NO MAJOR STRUCTURAL DAMAGE IS VISIBLE.APOVE THE RIGHT WING, A SIGN SLICED A CUT UNDER THE MAIN DOOR FRAME, BUT THE DOOR ITSELF IS COMPLETELY UNDAMAGED, THE FRAME ITSELF IS STRAIGHT AND THE DOOR CLOSES AND LATCHES WELL.THE NOSEGEAR IS UNDAMAGED AND DID NOT COLLAPSE, SO THE PROPELLOR ONLY HAD IMPACT WITH THOSE PESKY SIGNS, NOT THE GROUND.I TIP IS BENT BACK SLIGHTLY, ONE TIP IS SCRAPED AT THE END AND THE 3RD BLADE APPEARS UNDAMAGED.THE POLISHED SPINNER IS UNDAMAGED AND THE BLADES ARE NOT LOOSE IN THE HUB, A SIGN THAT THE MCCAULEY HUB IS PROBIBLY UNDAMAGED.THE ENGINE DID NOT QUIT, BUT IT HAS SUFFERED A LOW POWER PROP STRIKE AND SHOULD BE INSPECTED FOR SAFETY.THIS 5 YEAR OLD, 176 SFACTORY REMAN ENGINE DOES NOT REQUIRE A MAJOR OVERHAUL TO BE LEGAL !!!!!!BUT IF YOUR INTENT IS TO REPLACE/REPAIR THE PROP, COVER OVER THE DAMAGE TO THE LEADING EDGE AND FERRY THIS AIRPLANE HOME, BE AWARE THAT THERE ARE NO AVIONICS OR INSTRUMENTS INCLUDED!!AS YOU MIGHT GUESS FROM THE BIG SQUARE HOLES IN THE PANELS, THIS AIRPLANE HAD SOME OF THAT STATE OF THE ART STUFF WE ALL DREAM ABOUT!!BUT NONE IS INCLUDED HERE!!THE CUSTOM PANELS USE THE STOCK INSTRUMENT PANEL MOUNTING LOCATIONS, SO YOU CAN QUITE EASILY BOLT A WHOLE LEGACY INSTRUMENT PANEL BACK IN HERE, AND GO FLYING LIKE IT WAS 1999!!THERE IS A WHOLE BUNCH OF LEGACY STUFF AVAILABLE HERE ON EBAY, FROM US OR OTHERS, OR JUST CHECK AROUND YOUR HOME AIRPORT FOR SOMEBODY WHO UPGRADED TO GLASS AND WILL SELL YOU THEIR STUFF FOR PEANUTS!!AS YOU CAN SEE, THE LEGACY KING KY196 720 CHALLEL COMM AND KING KN-5
