Edmond Mathey-Tissot a Swiss watch maker of prestige watches, established his watchmaking business in the villag...e of Les Ponts-de-Martel in 1886. He began by specializing in complications, and especially repeater pocket watches, that is, watches which chime the minute and/or the hour and quarter-hour. The firm soon proceeded to make chronographs and won a number of prizes.

A 14 karat solid gold minuterepeating chronograph
The Basics: local newspapers for two decades.Approximately 53 mm diameterSubstantial at just over 4 ounces on postal scalesA 14 karat solid gold minuterepeating chronograph
Description of the Watch:The closed case is quite nice with engine turning on boththe front and rear of the case. The front cover springs opening to a crisp 90degrees when the gold crown is depressed. The gold crown is surrounded by astiff bow. The double sunk enamel dial is signed E. Mathey. The dichromatic dial has black arabic hours withred 5 minute numeral marks and atypical 5 second marks in red on the subsidiarysecond dial. The original steel hands are spade shaped in deep purple. All flyback setting functions on the simple chronograph work correctly. The button ontop of the case will start the center sweep hand. Press the button a secondtime and the center sweep hand stops. Press the button one more time tocomplete the function sequence and the hand will fly back to the startingpoint. To date, the chronograph fly back function has worked correctly. Theminute repeating function is activated with a slide lever found at the bottomof the case. The repeater function works correctly. In addition, the stem windscorrectly and the lever sett is true. Of special note; repeaters should only beset by advancing the time. The motion works are not designed for turning thehands in a retrograde direction. The inner cuvette opens and closes correctlyto reveal a secondary bezel securing an inner display crystal. The innerdisplay crystal is an additional feature on watches of note to protect themovement from the elements. Both the dial crystal and the display crystal arein excellent condition. The display crystal protests an excellent E. Matheysignature movement with high quality nickel damaskeening The ebauche is highlyjeweled all the way through the hammers; a very nice movement. The watch issigned in numerous places including, the dial, the inner cuvette and themovement over the repeating the repeating spring bridge.The engraving on the cuvette references interesting eventsin the history of the ownership of the watch. The watch engraving suggests atotal number of votes delivered either directly or indirectly on variouselection days by Israel "IS" Durham in 1903. The cuvette states, "the item mayorality contest 1903won by Hon Israel W Durham 584749 votes".
SUMMARY
This is anexcellent investment piece that is in demand. Considering that this is avintage watch and, in my opinion, investment grade .
