The footstool has pinned flared legs joined to rectangular stiles. Pinning is also a feature that disappears by 1912. The... rectangular stiles indicate it was always covered in leather or oilcloth. This footstool is recovered in an antique dark brown to black leather that is in excellent condition.
Overall the piece is structurally sound and all the joints are stable. It possibly has a recoated original finish or old refinish. The reddish-brown color is consistent with “Standard Stickley” pieces from 1905 to 1913. The finishes got lighter from 1913 onward.
There are minor chips to the outer edges of two legs, which is fairly common to this form, but they don’t affect the aesthetic appeal of the footstool.Don’t miss this opportunity to acquire a fine example of a rare Gustav Stickley Craftsman footstool. It is compatible with all Arts & Crafts designs by Gustav Stickley, Stickley Brothers, L&JG Stickley, Charles Stickley and other famous makers such as Charles Limbert, Charles Rohlfs, Roycroft and other celebrated designers of the era. There is no reserve on the footstool, and all reasonable will be considered.
