Very Rare Olympus XA4 35mm Rangefinder Film Camera, A11 Flash, Accessories & Box
Item History & Price
You bidding on a the second most desireable and rare of all Olympus XA variants. The Macro enabled Olympus XA4! (The rarest is the PINK 30th Anniversary XA2! Look for my other auctions for one of those!!!)And not just ANY XA4. But a BRAND NEW, still in the package XA4 with the A11 Flash. All documentation included. Also included is the Super Rare XA4 Macro Flash adapter still in package. I collected XA stuff on and off for 25 years. I have only seen maybe a dozen of these ada...pters, and this is only one I ever saw that still had the packaging. It has been taken out and used but still clean and works great.Took this out of packaging 13 years ago when I got it, took out the old button batteries, put in a new set. The Self Test worked fine (it makes a high pitch whine when you move the lever on the bottom to that setting.) I removed the batteries and put it back in the box. Tested the flash with a standard battery. Worked fine. The XA4 Macro uses the same body as the XA, but substitutes a zone focusing 28/3.5 lens and programmed exposure. It's "Macro" only focuses to 12, " but that is a lot closer than the XA's 2.8 feet. While the XA was a best seller and easy to find today, the XA4 is hard to find. In place of the XA's aperture scale, on the XA4 you will find a focusing scale. Notice the large DX film setting label, something new for the time.the XA4 is the classic 8 oz Olympus XA clamshell compact camera witha 28/3.5 five element lens instead of the XA's 35/2.8 Programmed exposure from 2 seconds at f/3.5 to 1/750th at f/14Scale Focusing as close as 12"Full flash compatibility with the XA's A1L, A11, and A16.Finder warning light when shutter speed is 1/30th or slower -- use tripod or flash.DX or manual film speed setting (DX films automatically set)Film speed range 25 to 1600Self Timer 12 second delayThe XA4 is not well known today, since it was made only for about a year. Today it is quite hard to find and sells for more than any of its clamshell cousins. Read this review written in 2018 about the XA4. Still one of most sought after cameras of the film era.https://www.casualphotophile.com/2018/11/12/olympus-xa4-macro-review-great-things-in-small-packages/I am a professional photographer for 25 years. I only kept three 35mm cameras when I sold all the stuff to go digital. My Nikon F6 (works with all my pro Digital Nikon gear) and a Olympus XA (first style with full manual exposure and focus) and a Olympus XA4. You look in the bottom of a lot of pro-photographers bags and you will find a XA of one variety or another. Back in the film day when someone asked for a recommendation for a pocketable, 35mm camera that actually could shoot great photos...I usually gave them one of the dozens of XA2's I kept around. As always, WYSIWYG. If it is NOT in one of pictures or not directly mentioned in the comments...IT IS NOT GOING TO BE IN THE BOX WHEN YOU OPEN IT!I do not accept returns! I know what I am selling, you should know what you are buying. Ifyou have any problems with the item, please contact me BEFORE you leavenegative or neutral feedback.
