Heavy thunderstorms with more tornado warnings repeatedlyinterrupted shooting of the “Moonglow” scene and it had to be completed on a back-lot in Burbank where Holden (according to some sources)was "dead drunk" to calm his nerves..James Wong Howe's widescreen photography for the film was consideredtrendsetting at the time, and the Cinemascope format was highlighted in thefilm's final aerial shot..Picnic was nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and won 2.
