Description/Interesting Notes: An absolutely extraordinary example of this very rare tin chloride!!! Abhurite is formed ONLY by the reaction of sea water and pure tin and has been found only in a few old shipwrecks worldwide!!! This specimen is from the wreck of the SS Liverpool, which was shipwrecked 1863, carrying a cargo of tin ...ingots from Cornwall!!! Abhurite specimens of any kind are quite scarce, however large very well crystallized specimens such as this are next to impossible to obtain!!! This specimen hosts broad vugs loaded with unusually fine platy crystals that range in size up to 5mm!!! The fine grained areas of the specimen are actually comprised of massive abhurite as well!!! This specimen retains a previous very detailed label (with some analytical notes) from the Oswalt collection as well!!!
