A excellent and rare 1865 CDV view of Libby Prison in Richmond, Virginia. Libby was a Confederate prison where captured Union officers were sent to await exchange. Conditions were exceedingly poor and the prison was overcrowded. There is some amazing detail in this image, including several wagons/deliveries at the left and, most notably, prisoners visible in the prison’s windows. The carte measures about 4” x 2 1/2” and is in excellent condition. No backmark.
