War 2. Theblade represents the opportunity to own a historic Koto tanto, ca. 1500s, by BishuKiyomitsu. The blade is in Excellent condition and themountings are in Near MINTcondition. The sword is a yoroi doshistyle tanto, meant for armor piercing. It has a blade length of 8.25 inches (21cm).It shows a highly visible burl itamehada. The hamon is a Bizen-style midarehamon. The hamon is present the length of the blade but begins to weaken and runnear the edge in the kissaki. There are activities like nie hotsure and uchinokein and along the hamon.The tang is signed BishuOsafune Kiyomitsu Saku and dated EirokuSan Nen Ni Gatsu Hi, or a lucky day in Spring of 1560. Bishu Kiyomitsu was a well-regarded line of swordsmiths working inBizen province from the early to late 1500s, making the sword koto. Their swords were sought out fortheir sharpness and craftsmanship by warlords during the Sengoku age of civilwars. Fujishiro rates their workmanship from Jo Saku to Chu Jo Saku. The blade comes in wooden shirasaya. It is in Near MINT condition. The blade is in Excellent condition. There are no nicks, little to no rust, and few scratches along its length. There is a small ware in the kissaki. The hamonalso weakens near the kissaki. There do not appear to be any hagire. Given the reputationof the swordsmith and the swords history, I think this piece would be an excellentaddition for a collector of WW2 militaria or Japanese swords.Terms and additional items: This item is original and not aknockoff or fake.
